Ask Dr. Casey

Question: What age should I bring my child to the dentist?

The American Academy of Dentistry recommends children should see the dentist when they get their first tooth, usually around six months. However, at Casey Family Dentistry the first visit should be around two to three years old, unless the child has risk factors, such as sleeping with a filled bottle of juice, milk, or formula, thumb sucking etc…

On the first visit to the office we try to acclimate your child to the dental office forming a bond of friendship and trust, reducing anxiety and fear.

We like to schedule appointments for your child in the morning while he or she is fresh and alert. What will take place is an exam of the teeth and gums to monitor growth and development, followed by a cleaning and assessment of any future dental needs. I will gladly answer any questions that you might have to make you and your child feel comfortable.

By setting a good example and letting your child watch you brush and floss your teeth and having routine visits to the dentist, they can have a lifetime of good oral health.
